Chattanooga Family Photographer | December Motherhood Collective

Chattanooga Photographer | Sweet Caroline Photographie | fall family portraits

I’m thankful to be able to share a Motherhood Collective post to end the year, after so many months of putting this project on the back burner. November through February are my absolute favorite months to shoot outdoors because of the luminous light and the lovely winter tones. I do so love my little family, and I adore these pictures. We are blessed! The days are long, but the years are so very short. We must always settle our hearts on gratitude.

But just keeping it real….

Parenting is hard. It is not for the faint of heart. And neither are family photo sessions. Listen friends, I am right there with you. Photo credits here belong to me (and a few to my little photogs in training) and this first picture took an act of God. (Not to mention how much thought and planning and purchasing goes into coordinating the clothing of SEVEN people – and a puppy, who is wearing an adorable sweater crocheted by my daughter). In the rush to get everyone dressed and to our location before we ran out of light, I forgot the little piece that attaches my camera to the tripod. Ok, fine. I solve problems all day long. I stacked the dog carrier on top of my step stool, and set the camera on top of it. Great, this will work. Then we’re all together happily smiling and interacting….and the remote. won’t. work. For. The. Love. The light is perfect. And we are just standing there feeling the happiness fading along with the sun. Finally, my husband figured it out and we were all happy again.  Except, of course, for the puppy, who was like “ok I’m done now, time for my nap.”

All that to say….I know family photo sessions can sometimes seem daunting. I know you worry if your kids will behave. But the investment of preserving this moment in your family’s history is worth it. These pictures are priceless to me. And at least you won’t have me in your pictures pointing the remote at the camera (see outtake below).

Contact Amy for information about your family photo session. Winter sessions are gorgeous! Some January and February dates still available.

Be sure to follow our blog circle around to see a family film created by my friend in Alaska, Megan Marlene.

  1. […] This post marks the last entry in my year long collaborative project where I have committed once a month to get in front of the camera with my babies. Many months have been challenging and there have been times that I have felt like giving up, but I am thankful that I was surprisingly able to make it to the end. As a photographer, I am usually the one behind the camera and there are always a million reasons why I don’t feel like being photographed most days (that my children could care less about). If it weren’t for this project, I know I would have very few (if any) portraits of me with my babies from this past year. These images are priceless to me as they help remind me on the long days how much I really do love my children even when I am overwhelmed. My hope is that they will also one day be treasured heirlooms that show my children and their children how much they were truly loved. Please continue the blog circle to see what everyone has to share, starting with my talented friend Amy. […]

These are so beyond amazing! Congratulations for pulling off your own portrait session with such wonderful results. The pictures of you and your hubby together are so very lovely and I can see that your kids are great friends.

Now which one is going as the new family portrait in the living room?

Over the years you have become better and better at capturing moments of time to share with your future generation. It is a privilege to call you and Brian among my golden friends!

Maternity photography is so beautiful to me, celebrating with my clients their excitement about the new life growing inside. As women, we have the honor of participating in a miracle, the growing and nurturing of a brand new little person. How wonderful, and worthy to be photographed. The day this mama’s sweet girl holds these […]

If I had to choose only one age during baby’s first year for photographs, it would be six months. They’re so irresistibly squishy and purely baby. They’re happy and still attached to mama. They’re basically perfect. Bring me all the babies and we’ll freeze time together. You can thank me later. For information about booking […]

Bidding farewell to heat and humidity with some sweet summer family farm photos. Seasons just keep turning, and families keep growing, and babies don’t keep. How beautiful to embrace every stage and season of childhood and parenting. I love the joy within these photographs, celebrating baby Jack’s one year milestone at his grandparents’ farm. I […]
