I loved celebrating the gift of this newborn baby girl’s life with this sweet family. These moments of joy caught on film are such a treasure. I asked this mama to share a bit of their story, and am so glad I did because the heart behind the photos make them that much more beautiful.
“When we found out we were pregnant with our Ellie, I was cautiously excited. Given our history of infertility, miscarriage, and the emotional ups and downs of that, I was guarding my heart pretty tightly. With each passing week, I was feeling more confident and was getting more and more excited at the reality that we were having a baby! I was enjoying being pregnant and felt so good. At our anatomy scan, we learned that our baby definitely had a cleft lip and a few other “markers” that were of concern and warranted high risk follow up. There was a long process of genetic testing and high risk ultrasounds, but at the end of it all we learned that our baby “just” had a cleft lip. There are so many details around that process, but as my baby was growing inside me, God was doing an even greater work in my heart. He was whispering to my heart “I’ve got this. My love for this child is so infinitely greater than you can know. I have made her beautifully, wonderfully, and fearfully in my perfect design.” Peace, trust, surrender, and faith in God’s good and perfect plan replaced my greatest fears, worries, need of control, or trust in my plan. Our sweet Ellie was born at 39 wks, and was the most beautiful healthy baby girl. We learned that she had a bilateral cleft lip, but her palate was not involved. A miracle in itself. Her little lip was the most precious and beautiful thing, and I just couldn’t kiss her enough. There were so many blessings that followed with feedings and fewer surgeries than we had anticipated. Surgery is scary, and she did have surgery for her lip repair at 5 months old, but again, the peace of God surpassed my greatest fears and gave this mama the strength I needed. Kids are also so very resilient. We are so thankful for this beautiful part of Ellie’s story, and ours, that God is using to work all things for our good and His glory.”
